The book is organized well and has excellent illustrations. (i.e. This is the 19th edition of a repair book that was originally written in 1969. Subsequent re-prints and re-edits have included appendices that help the modern-day idiot, rather than the Flower Child of the 70's, to find the necessary help on the car repair. certain web sites to help find parts) I am glad I purchased the book, and am hopeful that I will save lots of "bread" by repairing my bug myself. Some of Muir's phrases are a little dated: Intro "Its Karma depends on your desire to make and keep it - ALIVE.", or Step 7 on how to run procedures is to "Love" "You don't have to think, you must love" (p.7), and so far my favorite term "bread" as in "Now that you've spent your bread for this book - read it."(p.5) Fortunately, it adds to the reading experience. The advice and instruction are still very simple for a complete idiot like me, and still very appropriatel for my classic Beetle.
It was purchased for my son and he loved it and said it was most informative. The product was good.
The stories of VW ownership make it more of a technical novel than a repair manual, I loved that book more than my first bug. I had 3 beetles when I was a kid, this book came in the trunk of the first one. "where's the part I'm holding right now." It was all there. The exploded drawing of an entire bug is better than any Where's Waldo book. Like he instructed I read it cover to cover. I still think of this book when I'm about to skin my knuckles or leave the staples on a clutch-disk.
It has the best instructions and illustrations for repairing/replacing things in your VW of any manual anywhere, in simple terms that are easy to follow.I highly recommend this book for anyone who owns an old VW.priceless. I owned a copy of this book many, many years ago and now that my son just got a VW Bug, knew I had to track down another copy.
Lots of cool illustrations and "gotcha"s that you won't find in any other book. Lots of great information you won't find anywhere else. Wow, This book looked like NEW, but was much less than new and was shipped FAST. It is like they took 40 years of old hippie VW mechanics knowledge and poured it ALL into this one book. I just can't say enough good things about this book. Awesome book. A MUST HAVE for ANY air-cooled VW owner.
